Alexandru Belc received the award for Best Director in the Un Certain Regard section for his fiction
\ndebut Metronom. Metronom, named after the famous music show programme in the 70s by Radio Free
\nEurope, evokes the love story between two high school students of that era in Romania.<\/p>\n

The 75th Cannes Film Festival opened on May 17th, 2022. By the 28 th of May, when the prizes will be
\nawarded, the jury, chaired by French actor Vincent Lindon will have screened 21 films, including R.M.N.
\nby Cristian Mungiu, from Romania. Romanian filmmakers are also present in other sections of the
\ncelebrated festival:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/strong>Cristian Mungiu was in the Official Competition with his latest film R.M.N. A few days before Christmas, having quit his job in Germany, Matthias returns to his\u00a0multi-ethnic\u00a0Transylvanian village. He wishes to involve himself more in the education of his son, Rudi, left for too long in the care of his mother, Ana,
\nand to rid the boy of the unresolved fears that have taken hold of him. He\u2019s preoccupied\u00a0\u00a0with his old father, Otto and also eager to see his ex-lover, Csilla.\u00a0When a few new workers are hired at the small factory that Csilla manages, the peace of the community is disturbed, underlying fears grip the adults, and frustrations, conflicts and passions erupt through the thin\u00a0veneer of apparent understanding and calm.<\/p>\n

A non-judgmental analysis of the driving forces of human behavior when confronted with the unknown, of the way we perceive the other\u00a0and on how we relate to an unsettling future.<\/p>\n

The third Romanian filmmaker, Radu Jude<\/strong>, presents the world premiere of his short film “Potemkinists” in the “Directors” Fortnight section. In 1905, the sailors on the battleship Potemkin are given political asylum in Romania – an act of defiance against Russia. In 2021, a sculptor wants to create an artwork inspired by the event.
\nA comedy about art, history, memory and cinema, which film critic Andrei Gorzo describes as &quot;a cross between a Caragiale sketch and a Mark Rappaport video essay&quot;.<\/p>\n

Cosmina Stratan<\/strong> is also in Cannes this year in French director Arnaud Desplechin Fr\u00e8re et soeur, which screens in the Official Competition. In the film, she stars alongside famous French actress Marion Cotillard.<\/p>\n

Asocia\u021bia Secven\u021be<\/strong> is bringing 12 short films to Cannes, which will be presented in the Romanian Short Waves programme.<\/p>\n
