Radu Jude\u2019s I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians<\/em> has been chosen as the official candidate from Romania for an Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The film won the Crystal Globe for best film at the 53rd Karlovy Vary IFF<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The film tackles a delicate subject in Romanian history, the massacre of approximately 20,000 Jewish people by the Romanian army in Odessa in 1941. The script penned by Jude follows a young theatre director, who plans to do a reenactment of the Odessa massacre during a Bucharest Days cultural event, despite the doubts of the city hall and her personal problems.<\/p>\n

Hi Film Productions <\/a>produced the film in coproduction with Czech company endorfilm<\/a>, France\u2019s Les Films d\u2019Ici, Bulgaria\u2019s Klas Film <\/a>and Germany\u2019s Komplizen Film.<\/p>\n

I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians\/\u00cemi este indiferent dac\u0103 \u00een istorie vom intra ca barbari<\/em>is supported by SEE Network, the Romanian Film Centre<\/a>, Aide aux Cin\u00e9mas du Monde, the Czech State Cinematography Fund<\/a>, the Bulgarian National Film Center<\/a> and Eurimages<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Beta Cinema is handling the sales and Micro Film will release the film in Romania on 28 September 2018.<\/p>\n

The 91th Oscars will be held on 24 February 2018.<\/p>\n
